SAN Miguel veteran Arwind Santos played down his hard foul against Terrence Jones and the ensuing staredown with the TNT import in Game Four of the PBA Commissioner’s Cup Finals, saying it's all part of the game.
Jones drew a hard foul from Santos at the 6:47 mark of the final quarter and the temperamental TNT import let out a roar right on the SMB forward before walking away and smiling off the incident.
“Nagsigawan lang,” Santos said when asked about it afterwards. “Pinaamoy lang n'ya ‘yung hininga n'ya. Amoy Amerikano. Amoy burger. Sanay na ako. Ganun lang talaga kapag nagkakainitan na.”
Santos, who was choked by former SMB import Renaldo Balkman in one of the most memorable on-court fights in history, said it was all posturing.
“Gulatan lang naman kung sino masisindak. Part lang ng game ‘yun. Kaya lang, mas malakas siya bumuga sa akin, in fairness.”
Jones has been in the middle of physical plays as well as verbal exchanges against a host of San Miguel players in Chris Ross, Christian Standhardinger and Kelly Nabong. The latter two had a shoving match with Jones minutes later.
Santos admitted he is also trying to get under Jones' skin, but admited the TNT import - who was ejected from Game Two and got a flagrant foul in Game 3 - no longer wants to engage this time.
“Umiiwas din siya sa taunting at tinginan sa mata. Ayaw din niya. Marunong din. Pag may mga ganung scenario, sinasamantala namin. Tignan namin kung sino mapipikon,” said the former league MVP.
Santos also felt fortunate that he was only hit with a regular foul especially after nearly hitting Jones with an elbow in another play.
“Muntik ko nga siya masiko kanina. Kala ko matatamaan. Mabuti na lang nadaplisan lang,” said Santos. “Gusto ko sana sumigaw ng ‘Woah’ pero baka ma-technical pa ako.”
