ARWIND Santos is using the Holy Week to renew his faith in God and stay positive amid the negative vibes brought by his bashers on social media.
Speaking to SPIN.ph after San Miguel Beer's practice, Santos underlined the importance of Holy Week where the Beermen are still hard at work, although they are expected to take Good Friday off before returning to training on Black Saturday on the eve of Game Three of the PBA Philippine Cup Finals on Easter Sunday.
“Syempre hanggat maaari, makapagbigay ka ng oras sa Panginoon, sa mga simbahan, syempre makaiwas ka sa mga – hindi ko sinasabing Holy Week lang – makaiwas ka sa mga kasalanan,” Santos said. “Hangga't maaari, humingi ng tawad at magpasalamat sa mga binigay sa’yo ng Panginoon.
“And ang Holy Week, 'yan din yung pamilya mo, mas lalong dapat sama-sama, tapos walang masyadong negative,” he added.
The former MVP has been the subject of jeers from haters who have often interpreted his confidence for cockiness.
But Santos is just taking all the hate in stride.
“Short message lang masasabi ko: kasi hindi sila San Miguel fan,” said Santos, who has been with SMB for almost a decade. “Pagka-San Miguel fan ka, automatic magugustuhan mo ako. You’re lying pagka sinabi mong you hate me, tapos you’re a San Miguel fan – I don’t think so. Yun lang yun.”
“Basta ako, I don’t care (about) people not part of my life, especially if you’re not my family, I don’t care,” he added.
Santos would rather focus on the love he has been getting from his fans and family, and the blessings from God.
“Bakit mo kailangan pumatol sa mga tao, yung mga ayaw sa’yo? Hayaan mo sila,” Santo said. “Kung gusto nila masaya, it’s fine. Basta ako, masaya ako kung anong meron ako, mga binigay ng Diyos. Meron akong team na San Miguel. Masaya kami ng mga teammates ko.”
“Mga ibang tao, umiidolo sa akin, yun dapat yung pinagtutuunan mo ng oras – hindi yung mga negative something,” he added. “Kasi ako, ever since, positive ako. Hindi ako naging negative. Kahit may mga negative sa paligid, hirap ng buhay, hindi ako nagiging negative. Ngayon pa na sobrang blessed ako?”
