IT seems top rookies love to use Arwind Santos as target practice in the Smart Bro-PBA Philippine Cup.
After Meralco’s Chris Newsome dunked on him a few games back, Arwind Santos unfortunately got included in Mo Tautuaa’s personal poster on Saturday night in San Miguel Beer’s 97-84 win over Talk ‘N Text.
Rolling after setting a pick for Larry Fonacier, Tautuaa, this year's top pick, received a bounce pass from the TNT shooting guard, gathered himself for awhile, before going for a one-handed slam over Santos early in the fourth quarter.
The SMB star didn’t mind it, however.
“Hindi naman ako yung taong hindi pwedeng dakdakan ng kahit sino,” Santos insisted. “Ang importante nananalo kayo, importante nakakapaglaro dito sa PBA hindi dahil sa nadakdakan ka ng kahit sinong tao.”
“Kahit na sabihin mong nadakdakan ako ni (Emman) Monfort eh, so what, diba?” he added in jest, drawing chuckles from the press as he referred to the 5-foot-5 Barako Bull point guard, one of the league’s shortest players. “Walang masama doon. I'm always thankful.”
Anyway, it was just a small stain to an otherwise flawless performance that saw the former league MVP put up his best offensive game of the season with 30 points on 12-of-20 shooting, on top of 12 boards, three assists, one steal, and one block in 39 minutes.
Santos, though, felt he could’ve blocked Tautuaa in the play had he not been in foul trouble.
“Yung challenge kanina hilaw yon,” said Santos, who had four fouls at the time of the play. “Sa lahat pa ng mga dumakdak sakin kung titignan mo, hindi siya challenge na talagang ba-block-in ko. Kasi kung ba-blocki-n ko yun, hindi makaka-dunk sa akin ‘yun.”
