No Christmas break for SMB as it goes for the kill against outfought Texters

    Dec 23, 2014

VETERAN forward Arwind Santos said hard lessons from the past have made San Miguel Beer a more resilient side this season.

Speaking just moments after a 96-95 win gave the Beermen a commanding 3-0 lead over Talk 'N Text in their PBA Philippine Cup semifinal series, the former league MVP said the haunting memory of a collapse against the same team three years ago is keeping him on his toes.

The 6-foot-4 Santos was referring to Petron's Philippine Cup semifinal series debacle against Talk ‘N Text, where the Blaze blew a 3-1 series lead on the way to losing the winner-take-all Game Seven, 92-91.

“Mahirap magsalita kasi eh, pero di rin namin makalimutan yung before kasi tatlo din ang panalo namin tapos nalaglag din kami,” said Santos, who topscored for the Beermen with 23 points while on Tuesday night.

"Maraming lessons pero kailangan matutunan namin yun," he added.

Comparing this edition of the Beermen to past SMB teams, Santos said they have better chemistry this time although he wouldn't say past sides he had been in were dysfunctional.

“Maganda rin naman ang samahan namin in the past. Wala naman akong nakitang pangit makisama. Saka lahat willing at open, pero ngayon kasi, mas maraming makulit kaya lalo kaming nagje-jell,” he said with a smile.

Santos and San Miguel Beer want to wrap this up so much that they won't be taking a Christmas break, even if no team in PBA history has been able to come back from a 0-3 deficit.
