WITH import AZ Reid doubtful because of an injury, San Miguel's locals, including recovering Arwind Santos, need to cover a lot more ground if they hope to get past Alaska in the PBA Governors Cup game on Wednesday.
No problem, says Santos.
“Sana (maglaro si Reid), kasi malaking bagay na wala siya,” admitted Santos, who is still far from his top form, yet has been forced to fast-track his recovery from an offseason knee surgery due to the team’s difficulties.
“Wala kaming choice,” the former league MVP said. “Kailangan naming ibigay pa rin kung ano yung matutulong namin kasi alam namin na kulang-kulang kami. Ganun talaga.”
“Maliban sa gusto ko maglaro, gusto ko rin makatulong sa team, lalo na nakikita ko na may injury yung import namin,” he added. “Kahit papaano, makatakip-butas lang.”
Santos has averaged just 6.5 points, 6 rebounds, two assists, and one steal against four fouls in 20.1 minutes in his two games since his return.
“Kung ano yung mabibigay ko, walang pressure dun,” Santos said. “Basta may mabigay ako – kahit isang rebound, isang puntos – malaking bagay yun.”
“(Pero) alam ko naman na hindi lang isang puntos at rebound ang ibigigay ko, especially on defense, lalo na kung matatapat ako sa import nila,” added the two-time Defensive Player of the Year, who could be matched up against Aces prolific import LaDontae Henton.
