SAN Miguel Beer star Arwind Santos on Wednesday was fined a total of P25,000 by the PBA Commissioner's Office for a flagrant foul and comments against officiating in Game 3 of their Philippine Cup semifinal playoff against Ginebra.
The former Far Eastern University star was meted a P20,000 fine by Commissioner Willie Marcial for 'statements detrimental to the league' following the 95-87 Ginebra win that cut the Beermen's lead to 2-1 in the best-of-seven series.
He was slapped an additional P5,000 penalty for a flagrant foul 1 committed against Ginebra center Japeth Aguilar in the third quarter of Game 3.
Asked how he felt after the Game 3 loss, Santos went on the offensive against officiating, alluding to 'shadows' which he said made Ginebra tough to beat.
"What went wrong? Medyo ano eh... May mga shadow eh... Parang may mga shadow yung mga players kanina eh. Parang yung lima nagiging walo,” the former Far Eastern University star said.
“Parang ganun eh. Kaya parang nahihirapan kami bantayan kasi lima lang yung kalaban, pero nagiging walo. Ewan ko kung sobrang bilis kaya may shadow?”
However, Marcial said a more mellow Santos said sorry for the negative comments against officiating, explaining that he was simply overcome by emotions.
"Nadala lang daw ng emosyon," Marcial said.
For his part, Marcial advised Santos to be more careful with his statements about a league that has turned him into a household name.
