    Jan 24, 2017
Alaska's Calvin Abueva and Mahindra rookie Joseph Eriobu were both fined by the PBA Commissioner's Office for this altercation.

THE PBA on Tuesday handed down another round of penalties totalling P21,000 for offenses ranging from pulling down playing shorts to profane language, raising the amount of fines levied on players and coaches past the half-million mark this season.

Meralco sophomore Chris Newsome and Nino Canaleta bore the brunt of the penalties, getting fined P5,000 each for flagrant fouls penalty 1 as the Commissioner's Office stepped up its campaign to rid the game of dirty plays and impose discipline on the floor.

In all, the PBA has now levied fines amounting to P551,900 since the start of the season last November 22.

Calvin Abueva, who just last December 23 was fined P4,000 for 'foisting a stickum sign' (flashing a dirty finger) in Alaska's game against TNT kaTropa, was once again penalized P2,400 for a 'verbal altercation' with Mahindra rookie Joseph Eriobu last Sunday.

But the penalty no longer came as a surprise for the controversial Alaska forward, who was heard shouting, 'Wala na akong pera!' after he was slapped with a technical foul for the altercation.

Eriobu was penalized P1,000 for the same violation.

Other playes penalized were Ginebra rookie Kevin Ferrer and Mahindra's Raymond Aguilar (P1,000 each for verbal altercation), Rain or Shine's Jeff Chan (P1,000 for use of profane language), Meralco's Rabeh Al Hussaini (P1,000 for pulling down shorts), Blackwater's Ronjay Buenafe and SMB's Ronald Tubid (P1,000 for pointing an accusing finger at referee), and Mahindra's Alex Mallari (P1,600 for slamming the ball on the floor).
