ANJO Caram got the start for Meralco specifically to defend Ginebra star guard LA Tenorio.

He once again passed with flying colors.

Caram held Tenorio to only six points, two rebounds, and two assists, paving the way for Meralco’s 93-82 win over Ginebra on Friday in their PBA Commissioner’s Cup match-up.

The former San Beda guard also got the job done on the offensive end, finishing with 12 points and seven assists as the Bolts got back at the team that beat them in the past two Governors Cup Finals.

“Anjo Caram started tonight to give us a better match-up against LA Tenorio,” Meralco coach Norman Black in explaining the decision to go with Caram instead of regular starter Baser Amer.

This isn't the first time Caram has held down Tenorio, who finished with five points in a game against Meralco at the Philippine Arena during the Philippine Cup early in the year.

Caram, however, was quick to play down the notion that he has Tenorio’s number.

“All I thought about was to limit ‘yung touches niya. Very skilled player, kapag nasa kanya na ‘yung bola, marami siyang puwedeng magawa," he said. “Parang inisip ko na ilimit ‘yung touches niya para medyo mapadali.”

“Siyempre LA ‘yun, ginawa ko lang ‘yung trabaho na pinapagawa ng coaches,” Caram said.

The Caram-Tenorio match-up got extra physical as Caram was slapped with a technical foul in a skirmish against Tenorio. Replays showed Caram tried to wedge Tenorio’s foot between his legs.

Caram said the incident is all part of the game.

“Basketball kasi is a physical sport. Medyo nagka-ano lang. Hindi maiwasan na magkabanggaan. Siyempre nagkatamaan. Wala naman ‘yun, part of the game na ‘yun,” said Caram.
