ANJO Caram started for Meralco for the first time this conference, and he delivered for the Bolts in their crucial knockout game against NLEX on Friday night.
Caram pitched in 16 points and six assists in the Bolts’ 97-86 victory against the Road Warriors in a game where he started after nine games this conference.
“As far as I’m concerned, as long as I’m coaching, he can always be on my team. That’s a credit I give to him,” said Meralco coach Norman Black, obviously glad about Caram’s play in the critical win-or-go-home tiff.
The Meralco guard immediately made his presence felt in the game, scoring the first field goal of the game with a triple to set the tone for the Bolts. Black said the decision to start Caram was due to his steady presence that would benefit the team from the get go.
Black says it was an easy decision to start Caram
“We felt we needed another ball handler tonight,” said Black. “Anjo has a lot of experience. He is ready to play, no question about that, whether he plays five minutes or 30 minutes. It was an easy decision to start him tonight.”
What Caram started, he also finished as he scored a triple and a reverse lay-up that extended Meralco’s lead to 89-75 with nearly three minutes left in the contest.
Caram’s contributions complemented the play of Meralco stars Chris Newsome, who scored 21, and Cliff Hodge, who added 16.
“He came up with some big plays for us down the stretch. He is a great teammate as well as being a good player,” said Black.
