ANDRE Paras has changed his jersey number to 14, which was what his father Benjie wore for most of his legendary career.
A look at the opening day roster released by the league on Tuesday indicated that Paras made the change after wearing No. 1 during his debut with Blackwater during the Philippine Cup.
Rookie MVP
The number change appears to be Paras’ way of paying homage to his father, the league’s only Rookie MVP.
The elder Paras wore No. 14 during his time with Shell where he won two MVPs including in 1989 in his first season in the PBA. Benjie also captured the MVP in 1999.
Paras will definitely hope that the number change will be a good omen for him. The 27th pick in the Season 46 draft played limited minutes in his 10 games for the Bossing, and averaged only 1.6 points and 1.3 rebounds.
