LA Tenorio is already blessed to be playing under the PBA’s most successful coach, Tim Cone, whom he considers the standard of coaching greatness in the league.
But the Ginebra playmaker mourned the loss of legendary mentor Baby Dalupan, and was quick to add that he believes the 'Maestro' is on a class of his own.
Despite surpassing Dalupan with the most championships in the league, Cone has said that the 'Maestro' will always be the greatest coach in Philippine basketball.
For his part, Tenorio has only heard of stories of the legend of Dalupan, while he's had first hand experience to learn from Cone. What he's also witnessed, however, is the respect his coach has for Dalupan.
“Coach Tim is just being humble,” Tenorio said with a chuckle, before turning serious. “Siguro that’s the respect of coach Tim. Kahit nalampasan na niya si coach Baby, ganun pa rin yung respeto niya sa isang Maestro.”
“For coach Tim, siya (Dalupan) pa rin ang pinakamataas na position na gusto niya makuha,” he added in a talk with reporters after the Bring Home the Kings promo event at PBA Cafe on Thursday night.
Tenorio, though, is well aware of the legacy Dalupan has left in Philippine basketball, and should he take the coaching path someday, he has one role model in mind.
“Too bad nawala na siya, pero yung naiwan niya na legacy, malaki talaga,” Tenorio said. “I’m sure maraming gustong coach na mapunta dun sa position niya.”
“Ako, if I’m going to be a coach, I want to be in that position also,” he added.
