ANTIPOLO – Allen Durham felt that he wasn’t at his best despite posting a near triple-double in Meralco’s 92-90 loss against TNT on Sunday.
The reigning two-time PBA Governors Cup best import posted another monster statline with 27 points, 22 rebounds and eight assists.
But unlike in their game against Columbian Dyip, those numbers didn’t translate into a win.
“Yeah, it's frustrating. I had the numbers but I didn't play my best game,” said Durham.
“I think everybody on the team, we just want to worn ourselves tonight so everybody gotta look in the mirror and we got to get back to work on Tuesday and put out a better product when we play Alaska,” he added.
Durham blasted his squad’s lack of intensity on the defensive end, particularly late in the fourth quarter where they gave away wide open baskets to allow TNT to break away.
That’s something that they can’t afford moving forward, especially since they’re looking to get over the hump after two bridesmaid finishes in the previous seasons.
“We just played terrible tonight. We weren't decisive about anything that we did tonight. We were like too hesitant on anything. Our defense, we’re too soft. We’re too soft,” Durham said.
“We gotta get mean, angry, something, you know. We’re not gonna win championship with defense like that, even with the defense that we played on Friday. That's not championship defense.”
But Durham stays positive amid the loss, and he’s just excited to bounce back quick.
“Good thing is it's still early in the conference so we can correct it. And we don't have to wait that long to get back on the court and do that.”
