BOCAUE, BULACAN — Meralco may have bowed to Ginebra again in an epic PBA Governors' Cup finals battle, but Bolts import Allen Durham kept his head held high.
Meralco put up a gallant stand late in the game but fell short of pulling off a comeback from a 20-point deficit as Ginebra held on to a 101-96 win in Game 7 on Friday at the Philippine Arena.
“We fought good, we lost to a good team, we don’t have (anything) to be ashamed or anything like that. We got to keep working,” said Durham.
As tough and painful the loss was for the back-to-back Best Import, he’s hoping to go for a third tour of duty next year and finally win the much-coveted title.
“It was a hard-fought series, it’s tough, it hurts,” said Durham. “(But) we got to figure out a way to get over this hump (and) hopefully I can come back next year as we go at it again.”
“I really wanna win with this group of guys. They work so hard, we work so hard. We're gonna keep going at it,” he added.
When asked if it was worth it, Durham didn’t even blink when he said yes.
“For sure,” he said. “Before now, I never played in front of 50,000 plus (audience), that could be another memory that I'll have until the day I die. I'd be able to tell my kids about it, so yeah, it's definitely worth it.”
Game 7 registered a league record of 54,086, which broke the Game 6 crowd attendance of 53, 642.
