IT’S always about team success, but Allen Durham didn’t hide his pleasure over one play in his individual matchup against Justin Brownlee in Game Three of the PBA Governors’ Cup Finals on Wednesday night.

After getting blocked twice by Brownlee in the first quarter, Durham admitted he made a conscious effort to gain a measure of vengeance on his Ginebra counterpart.

The hulking Meralco import finally got that at the three-minute, nine-second mark of the payoff period when he rejected Brownlee’s layup that factored in the Bolts’ 94-81 win.

“Little payback, it felt good,” Durham said with a smile after the game. “He made me look foolish earlier, so it felt good to pay him back a little bit.”

The block highlighted another workmanlike effort for the back-to-back Governors’ Cup Best Import awardee, who finished with 38 points, 20 boards, five blocks, four assists, two steals, and the W in almost 44 minutes.

Brownlee’s numbers’ paled in comparison as he registered 15 points, 11 boards, five blocks, two assists, and ones steal.

Still, Durham played down his overall individual matchup with Brownlee as he braced for a rejuvenated showing by his counterpart in Game Four on Wednesday night.

“He’s a great player,” Durham said. “He can go off at any time.”

“But I’m not really focused on that (matchup),” he was quick to add. “That’s why this is a team sport, a team game. I’m just doing whatever it takes for my team to come out with a win.”

But it’s a win that only reduced the Gin Kings’ lead to 2-1.

“I mean, we won a game tonight but we haven’t really done anything significant,” Durham said. “Just extended the game a little bit, extended the series. Now we get to Game Four, we win that and we have a series – and the whole thing changes, so we gotta focus on Game Four.”
