Meralco wary of swelling on Durham's sprained ankle, but Bolts import says he'll be ready vs Star

    Sep 28, 2017

ALLEN Durham allayed fears that he could be sidelined at least at the start of Meralco’s PBA Governors’ Cup semifinal series against Star due to sprained right ankle he sustained in the Bolts’ 104-96 win over Blackwater in their quarterfinal sudden death on Thursday night.

The do-it-all Bolts import tweaked his ankle when he stepped on the foot of Poy Erram as he landed after jumping for a kickout pass to Baser Amer early in the fourth quarter.

Durham came out with seven minutes and one second left in the game, but checked back in with four minutes and 22 seconds on the clock, scoring six points that kept the Elite at bay.

Still, Bolts coach Norman Black is concerned of the condition of the reigning Best Import, who flirted with another triple-double with 18 points, 20 rebounds, and nine assists.

“He said it’s pretty bad, but the fact he came back and played means that maybe it’s workable,” Black said. “But you never know how it’s going to swell up tonight, so I think that’ll be the main thing: we have to try to find a way to control the swelling.”

Asked if they have a backup import in case Durham is unavailable, Black answered in the negative.

“No, we don’t,” Black said in the post-game conference. “We’ll have to work the lines, I guess. But hopefully that’s not the case.”

Durham, though, assured that he’s good to go on Sunday when the Bolts start their best-of-five series versus the Hotshots in Binan, Laguna.

“Oh yeah, oh yeah, oh yeah. I'll be ready for Sunday,” Durham said. “The doctor already got a plan of action and we'll get back and work on it tomorrow.”

“It's still a little tender right now,” he added. “You know, the adrenalin of the game kinda wore off so it's now kinda setting in. (I just have to) do some treatment and stuff tomorrow and get ready for Sunday.”
