ALLEN Durham’s mammoth performance on Saturday fell short after another clutch shot from Justin Brownlee.
Durham had his best game of the conference, racking up 39 points including a three-point play with 1:22 left that gave Meralco a two-point lead. But his efforts still ended up in a loss no thanks to Brownlee.
The Barangay Ginebra import took a step back and made a three-pointer with 10.1 seconds left that eventually became the game-winning shot for a 2-0 lead in their PBA Governors’ Cup quarterfinal series.

Durham took the loss in stride, while also recognizing the huge effort of Brownlee in the end game.
“I think we had a good moment in the fourth quarter where we kinda took control and we kinda let our foot off the pedal and made some big shots down the stretch,” said Durham in a brief interview with reporters.
“Brownlee did what Brownlee does. He made a big shot again,” he added.
Brownlee’s game-winner had fans remembering the title-clincher in Game Six of the 2016 PBA Governors’ Cup where the Ginebra import went one-on-one with Durham off an inbound and buried a pull-up three.
Prior to the game-winner, Brownlee actually had a block against Durham to keep Barangay Ginebra in the game. Brownlee went the length of the floor to deliver the clutch moment.
"I think we should have maybe a better play drawn up. Should have gotten more spacing because that area was kinda congested. Left me with nowhere to go. But we will look at the film and see what actually happened," said Durham.
Durham is moving on from the game, as he looks ahead at Game Three where he hopes to extend Meralco’s campaign in the Governors’ Cup.
“We will come back and play on Monday,” said Durham.
