THE Star Hotshots have earned a lot of praise for taking Ginebra all the way to Game Seven of their PBA Philippine Cup semifinal playoff in their first conference under Chito Victolero.
Don't tell that to Allein Maliksi.
The Hotshots gunner found no consolation from the team's gallant stand against Ginebra, saying they actually haven't achieved anything after failing to fulfill the ultimate goal, which is to win the championship.
"For me, there's no such thing as overachievement. We're here to play basketball and to achieve a common goal, which is to win a championship," said Maliksi in the aftermath of the 89-76 loss to Ginebra in Game Seven at the Mall of Asia Arena.
"Okay na tayo sa naka-semifinals tayo? Di ganun. For me, winning the championship is the ultimate goal."
The former University of Santo Tomas standout refuses to sugar-coat the loss, even if he was among the best performers of Star in Game Seven where he scored 22 points and grabbed five rebounds.
But he's willing to chalk this one up as a learning experience, saying he hopes it would be the start of a resurgence of the storied Purefoods franchise.
"We want to focus on next conference and what happened this all-Filipino Cup, parang learning experience na lang," said the outspoken Star forward.
"Sana ito na yung start ng Purefoods na kinakatakutan before. Pag sinabi na Purefoods, talagang championship contender," Maliksi said.
"Sana ito na yung start, sana madala sa mga susunod na conference."
