FRIDAY was extra special for De La Salle-Zobel star and UAAP Season 78 juniors MVP Aljun Melecio.
After receiving his MVP trophy before Game Two of the Finals against erstwhile unbeaten National University, Melecio had a solid outing with 14 points and nine assists to help the Junior Archers foil the Bullpups sweep dreams, 71-60, and extend the series at least another game.
But Melecio’s special day got more interesting when after the game, the 17-year-old was surprised with a sweet proposal by a girl who appeared on court, asking him to be her date for the graduation ball on March 12 with a sign that read, 'If yes, shoot a three' while the song ‘Moving Closer’ by Never The Strangers echoed in the arena.
Melecio obliged by taking, and making, the three pointer and bagged himself a lovely date, his friend Kitty De Leon.
“Parang dating pa lang [kami],” said Melecio, who turned shy when asked asked about the status of the couple's relationship.

De Leon’s gesture also had special significance with their song playing in the background.
“Sobrang na-surprise ako lalo na’t good vibes kaming lahat dahil panalo, big win. Nagulat ako na nag-propose,” said Melecio.
“'Yun 'yung [song na] lagi naming pinakikinggan,” he added.
