NLEX team manager Ronald Dulatre has confirmed high-leaping wingman Alex Nuyles has been practicing with the Road Warriors for almost a week now.
But the soft-spoken Metro North Tollways finance officer was quick to shoot down speculations Nuyles’ presence in the Warriors’ camp was brought about by a trade with veteran shooting guard Mark Cardona.
“Andito si Nuyles pero hindi naman namin pinalit sa kanila (Mahindra) si MacMac. He is still with us,” said Dulatre.
Initial reports claimed the unorthodox Cardona is on the trading block. Dulatre did confirm there were inquiries from other teams regarding Cardona’s availability, but he insisted there are no trade deals on the table.
“May mga nagtatanong tungkol sa kanya. Pero wala pang serious negotiations,” he said.
“He'll still play with us. He's integral to our system,” added the team manager of the six-time PBA D-League champion.
The longtime NLEX team manager however, insisted Nuyles' chances of making the Road Warriors’ roster will depend on the revamp being undergone by the franchise.
“Loaded pa kami sa wings eh. Depende yan kung makakapag-unload pa kami ng mga players sa spot na 'yun,” he said while referring to the team's current 19-man pool.
NLEX initially had 23 players at its disposal, but trimmed down the roster after Rudy Lingganay was sent to the Pacman Pilipinas Aguilas in the Asean Basketball League (ABL), and KG Canaleta and Aldrech Ramos were traded to Mahindra in a three-team deal with Talk ‘N Text that saw the arrival of Kevin Alas to the Road Warriors' camp.
Dulatre bared NLEX is still open to possible trades with other teams as the Road Warriors are still in the lookout for a legitimate power forward.
“We are still in need of a legit 4 lalo ngayon na si Asi (Taulava) is part of the rigorous Gilas Pilipinas training,” he said.
