JUST when Alaska’s roster appeared to be injury-free, guess who would go down injured?
Coach Alex Compton was hit with back spasm in the third quarter of the Aces’ 134-103 win over Columbian Dyip Friday night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Compton said standing for a long stretch on the sidelines simply took its toll on him.
“I was just standing on the bench when suddenly I felt my back began to feel stiff,” said the Alaska mentor, who had to bear with the pain for the rest of the game and called the shots while taking a seat on the bench.
The former MBA star said his back has long been a problem even during his playing days.
“I began to have it as early as I was 17,” recalled the 44-year-old coach, who had a hard time walking back to the Alaska dugout from the press room and needed to be assisted by deputy Franco Atienza.
Compton took some pain reliever later and had his back stretched by head trainer Gus Vargas.
