ALASKA coach Alex Compton dispelled rumors that Calvin Abueva is on his way to Barangay Ginebra, a trade speculation recently sparked by a fan art of the Aces superstar wearing a Ginebra uniform.
"It's news to me. I haven't heard anything,” Compton said after the Aces’ tune-up game against Gilas Pilipinas on Saturday. “I haven't heard from Fred (Uytengsu), from Calvin, from me, or any other teams.”
“Rumors come out, gosh there are so many of that,” he added.
Compton understands where fans are coming from, but insisted the trade rumor is just that: a rumor.
“PBA fans are excited, fans love the game,” Compton said. “I think there are teams that would love to have Calvin, so if you're a fan and you can start that rumor, and, you know, people like to have fun in all kinds of different ways.”
“I don’t actually have social media or follow,” he added. “I listen to the team, my friends, friends who are coaches, the boss, and that’s it. The other stuff (I don’t).”
Asked about receiving plenty of assets in case of an exchange that will see them give up Abueva, Compton just joked about it as he renewed his trust on The Beast as the Aces’ cornerstone.
“I never even thought about that. If somebody was offering LeBron and KD and they’re half-Filipino then maybe we will talk. But it's just…it's not a thought.”
