ALASKA shoots for its second straight win on Saturday when the Aces go up against San Miguel in the PBA Governors’ Cup at the Ynares Center in Antipolo City.
The Aces look to improve their 4-1 win-loss record in the Petron Saturday Special matchup against the Beermen at 6:45 p.m.
Alaska didn’t seem like a team coming off a one-month break as the Aces beat Rain or Shine, 106-89, last Wednesday.
The Aces are also seeking to join Magnolia and Blackwater for second place.
Even though the Beermen are at 2-3 and have lost two straight games as four-time Most Valuable Player June Mar Fajardo continues to sit out, Alaska coach Alex Compton remains cautious.
Compton noted that Christian Standhardinger has been stepping up in Fajardo’s absence while Kevin Murphy exploded in his first game as San Miguel’s import with 37 points against Magnolia last Sunday.
“If you’d watch him play, the guy is special. He’s been doing a great job. And you’ve got him now working with that great guard core and then they’ve got a lightning-quick scoring import,” said Compton.
In the first game, winless teams NorthPort and Columbian collide at 4:30 p.m.
The Batang Pier lost to TNT, 104-102, last week, while the Dyip bowed to Magnolia, 113-95.
