With Cabagnot watching from courtside, rhe Beermen took the first step in their bid for a comeback in the series with a 101-98 win that denied the Gin Kings of a sweep and extended the playoffs to a Game Four.
Comebacks, of course, are Cabagnot's cup of tea.
As part of San Miguel’s ‘Death 5’ alongside June Mar Fajardo, Chris Ross, Marcio Lassiter, and Arwind Santos, Cabagnot helped the Beermen overcome a 0-3 deficit in the 2015-16 Philippine Cup Finals against Alaska.
Cabagnot, who is now into coaching, having held the head coaching job of the Ilagan Isabela Cowboys late in their MPBL season, won nine PBA championships, including that Philippine Cup comeback that came to be known as the ‘Beeracle.’
His presence have inspired hope of another epic comeback.
“‘Yung presensya niya siyempre, malaking boost din sa amin kasi kasama namin siya,” said Fajardo. “Malaking parte siya sa San Miguel. So nung makita namin siya na pumasok sa dugout and nandiyan siya sa courtside, siyempre malaking boost sa amin.”
“Sana manood ulit sya sa next game namin,” Fajardo added.
Lassiter also welcomed Cabagnot’s presence.
“It’s always great to see a former player who’s played with us and battled with us. So it’s always good to have someone cheering for us and it’s gives us a little boost at the same time,” Lassiter said.
