THE taste of real success with San Miguel Beer has never kept Alex Cabagnot from forgetting what he went through with Globalport.
The veteran playmaker was sent back to his former team for Sol Mercado and two future second-round picks in a revised trade earlier this month and is now experiencing success with the Beermen, who are on the verge of a finals berth in the PBA Philippine Cup.
But Cabagnot believes the emerging Batang Pier can get there someday as the future is bright.
“They have a great upside and I wish them the best,” he said, now blessed to run a powerhouse lineup, led by June Mar Fajardo and Arwind Santos. “Those guys are really working hard."
“We didn’t have an Arwind or a June Mar, but we improved our mark from the last two conferences and I miss those guys,” Cabagnot added as the Batang Pier lost all but two of their 18 games in the last two conferences or in the last 10 months.
The 32-year-old point guard said he grew close to the Batang Pier’s young guns, led by rising star Terrence Romeo, who teamed up with Rookie of the Year candidate Stanley Pringle in helping the team improve its mark to a more respectable 5-6 win-loss card in this season-opening conference.
“They look up to me and hopefully every time I play, I just want to show a good showing because I know they’re watching,” Cabagnot said. “I know they want the best for me.”
“I want the best for them too,” he was quick to add. “I want them to succeed.”
