PLANTAR fasciitis kept veteran guard Alex Cabagnot from suiting up for San Miguel in its PBA Philippine Cup game against Globalport on Wednesday night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum which the Beermen won, 107-93.
The 35-year-old Cabagnot didn’t practice with the team on Tuesday due to the disorder that causes pain on his heel, forcing teammate Arwind Santos to take his place during the PBA Homecourt tour at Barangay Escopa in Project 4, Quezon City.
Coach Leo Austria later revealed Cabagnot could be out for about a month.
"I hope he can recover the soonest possible time," he said.
"Probably next month pa siya makakalaro. We’ll do our best na mapagaling siya agad."
The injury was the same one which sidelined San Miguel teammate June Mar Fajardo and kept him from suiting up for Gilas during the 2015 Fiba Asia Men’s Championship.
“Masakit nga yun. Hindi ka makalakad kasi hindi mo matatapak yung heel mo sa sakit,” said Meralco’s KG Canaleta, who disclosed having endured the same injury a few years ago.
Canaleta said operation is not necessary, although it might take quite a while to recover from the injury through therapy.
The Beermen have not given a specific timetable for the return of Cabagnot, a key piece in the team’s talented starting unit.
In Cabagnot’s absence, Matt Ganuelas-Rosser took his place as San Miguel’s starter at the No. 2 spot.
Another injured Beerman in big man Gabby Espinas also sat out the game against the Batang Pier.
