AS far as JV Casio is concerned, it takes more than one man to contain or even stop former Alaska star guard LA Tenorio.
But what one man can't do, a phalanx of defenders did the trick.
A dragnet of defenders succeeded in holding the Ginebra playmaker to 19 points on 5-for-19 shooting as the league-leading Alaska clinched a twice-to-beat advantage in the PBA Commissioner's Cup playoffs with a 102-93 win on Wednesday night.
“Of course, kailangan namin ng five players to guard LA, but we just kept on playing defense," said Casio, adding they expected Tenorio to keep firing with Ginebra star Mark Caguioa out for the fourth straight game as he recovers from a knee injury.
"Expected iyan (big game) from LA lalo na wala si Mark kaya pinagtulungan namin nila RJ (Jazul) at Dondon (Hontiveros) sa depensa,” Casio added.
Casio said Tenorio’s court smarts and veteran leadership are what make the Ginebra star guard difficult to defend.
“He played smart and he’s really tough to guard. Iyan naman ang kakayahan niya so it was really a team effort (to stop Tenorio),” added Casio who scored eight points and dished off eight assists in 39 minutes.
The Aces, who improved to 10-3, wind up their elimination round schedule on Friday where they play also-ran Globalport Batang Pier.
