Alaska vs NLEX, KIA vs Phoenix in PBA opener as Ginebra stays in Sunday playdates

    Jul 7, 2017

ALASKA and NLEX, two teams looking to atone after missing the playoffs in the last conference, face off when the 2017 PBA Governors Cup unfolds on July 19 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

The Aces, who missed out on a playoff berth in the Commissioner's Cup after losing to GlobalPort in a knockout match, are expected to come out firing with Ledontae Henton back in the fold.

However, the Aces will be up against a similarly motivated side in the Road Warriors, who are looking to make the playoffs for the first time in Yeng Guiao's first season in charge.

KIA Picanto, formerly Mahindra, takes on Phoenix in the other opening-day game.

Meralco, runner-up to Ginebra last season in this same tournament, makes its debut against Blackwater in a July 21 playdate that also includes a clash between GlobalPort and Rain or Shine.

Ginebra, as usual, will be playing its first two matches on Sundays - against Meralco on July 23 and against GlobalPort on July 30.

Newly crowned Commissioner's Cup champion San Miguel Beer gets its grand slam bid rolling on July 29 against Blackwater with Wendell McKines as import.

The other Commissioner's Cup finalist, TNT Ka Tropa, will play its first game on July 28 against KIA Picanto at the Ynares Center in Antipolo City.

    Here's the initial schedule:
