ALASKA and Meralco look to seize control of their PBA Governors’ Cup semifinals on Thursday at the Cuneta Astrodome.
The Aces and the Bolts clash at 7 p.m.
Alaska bounced back from a two-point loss in the series opener, leveling the best-of-five series with a five-point win in Game Two.
Alaska coach Alex Compton though said the team should stay sharp for Game Three after Meralco was able to cut the Aces’ 20-point lead.
“You can see the spirit of Meralco right there at the end and hindi talaga biro ‘yung sinabi ko sa kanila na kailangan mas maganda yung ipakita namin sa series na ‘to compared sa game namin sa San Miguel just because of the way they're playing,” said Compton.
Compton hopes to have big games once again from Mike Harris (37 points, 19 rebounds), Simon Enciso (23 points), and Chris Banchero (13 points, 11 rebounds, eight assists) for Thursday’s all-important match.
After fighting through six do-or-die games, Meralco saw is win streak end at seven, and head coach Norman Black admitted fatigue could be taking its toll.
Black noted Meralco import Allen Durham only had nine rebounds in the contest.
“They didn’t have their legs (in Game Three),” Black said. “I think AD (Durham) had nine rebounds which is way, way below his average. So I had to find a way to keep him fresh so when we play them in the next game, in Game 3, we’ll have a little bit of energy and have our regular game,” said Black.
