Alaska set to hold special tribute for Eric Menk in game against Ginebra

    May 6, 2017
Semi-retired PBA cager Eric Menk gets a special tribute from Alaska in its match against Ginebra on Sunday.

ERIC Menk is expected to draw cheers from fans of two teams he played for in the PBA as Alaska holds a special tribute to its former player in the Commissioner’s Cup game against Ginebra on Sunday night at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.

Aces coach Alex Compton said the planned tribute for the semi-retired Menk will take place at the half of the main game.

“We wanted to do it during a Ginebra game to give the Ginebra fans one last official chance to cheer for Eric and say thank you for all of the years and championships,” Compton said on Saturday.

The 42-year-old Menk spent most of his 16-year career with Ginebra, playing there for a decade in which he bagged a league MVP and won all his four championships with the league’s most popular team.

After having a short stint in the Asean Basketball League and back in the PBA with GlobalPort, Menk played his last two seasons with the Aces.

“We at Alaska were really glad to have him with us for the last two years of his career, and he had a great impact on our culture and team,” Compton said. “We chose on this special night, May 7, to honor one of the PBA's 40 best players.”

“We hope fans can come support him and for those who can't, we hope they can tune in and get a chance to reminisce about Eric's tremendous career,” he added.
