ANTIPOLO – Alaska continued its winning ways and sent struggling San Miguel to its third straight loss, 127-119, on Saturday in the PBA Governors’ Cup at the Ynares Center.
Mike Harris led the Aces with 36 points and 23 rebounds, and the locals led by Vic Manuel, Simon Enciso and Chris Banchero also produced as the Aces picked up their second straight win to join Magnolia and Blackwater for second place with a 5-1 record.
Kevin Murphy hit 45 points to no avail as the Beermen slipped to 2-4 as the struggles continue for the team that is sorely missing four-time Most Valuable Player June Mar Fajardo.
“When you look at all of them, I’m so happy that we get the win here,” said Alaska coach Alex Compton. “Obviously, we made some shots and our ball movement was good. Sometimes, you have games that the ball movement was good but they don’t make the shots. Today, they knocked it down.”
Manuel had 20 points, while Enciso added 18 points and they scored in a key 9-3 run that put the game away for Alaska. Enciso hit a triple that made the game a 112-105 lead with 4:50 left in the fourth before a lay-up by Manuel put the Aces up, 116-108.
Banchero had another double-double as he had 15 points and 12 assists for the Aces, who actually had two more players scoring in double figures in Jeron Teng (12) and Ping Exciminiano (11).
Christian Standhardinger had 28 points and 13 rebounds, but was limited to five markers in the second half. Arwind Santos had 20 ponts and seven blocks but the struggles continue for the Beermen.
