ALASKA has turned to original choice Chris Daniels to reinforce the team heading to its big game against San Miguel Beer in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup on Friday.
The Aces reactivated Daniels in lieu of the unimpressive Nino Johnson in time for their 7 p.m. encounter against the Beermen at the Astrodome.
Daniels steered Alaska to a 4-2 record by averaging 20.2 points, 12.0 rebounds, 2.2 assists, and 2.0 blocks but had to be replaced as he has been nursing a quad injury.
Unfortunately, Johnson failed to approximate the same numbers as Daniels, finishing with just six points and four rebounds in a 78-76 loss to Phoenix last week in his league debut.
The lackluster performance obviously left coach Alex Compton baffled.
“I don’t know what it was,” said Compton when asked about Johnson’s performance against the Fuel Masters. “You can see he was not feeling that well and it showed. He doesn’t cover grounds and I had to sub him out for a few minutes.
“Just obviously, he doesn’t really know what we’re doing to struggle a bit offensively.”
The Aces will be facing a Beermen side that is off to a slow start in the conference, carrying a 1-3 record and just fresh from a 110-107 overtime loss to Barangay Ginebra.
