Sep 20, 2019

ALASKA big man Noy Baclao suffered a horror knee injury in the final quarter of a loss to Columbian in the opening game of the 2019 PBA Governors Cup at the Mall of Asia Arena on Friday night.

The veteran big man out of Ateneo, the top pick overall of the 2010 rookie draft, writhed in pain as soon as he landed after his layup was blocked by Columbian big man Andreas Cahilig.

The injury was so gruesome Cahilig and the other players couldn't bear to look as Baclao was attended to on the floor.

Alaska team doctor Facundo Sun said the initial diagnosis was a raptured patella tendon on Baclao's right knee.

“It could be a patella tendon rapture,” said Sun. “It needs to have a surgical repair.”

The 6-5 Baclao, 32, was attended to at the Alaska locker room and his knee iced before he was taken to the hospital for a medical examination.
