PUERTO PRINCESA – Alaska banked on a fiery start to post a convincing 109-82 win over Barako Bull in the PBA Liga ng Bayan at the Puerto Princesa Coliseum here on Friday night.
Cyrus Baguio, Calvin Abueva, Vic Manuel, and rookie Chris Banchero caught fire early on and towed the Aces to the wire-to-wire win.
Baguio led all Alaska scorers with 16 points, while Banchero added 14, including five straight points in the opening quarter that gave the Aces a commanding 29-9 lead with still 2:25 to go in the period.
Abueva added 13 markers, while Dondon Hontiveros and Vic Manuel, adjudged as the Best Player of the game, each had 11 in a balance scoring for the Aces.
Denok Miranda and RR Garcia had 11 points each to show the way for Barako, which managed to trim the deficit to as close as 39-35 midway in the second period.
But Alaska kept its poise and never relinquished the lead.
The Aces opened the final quarter behind a 12-4 run to keep their distance from the Energy, 90-72.
