ALASKA might have dropped its first game sans the suspended Calvin Abueva, but there’s still no word on whether a reinstatement is imminent or not.
Aces head coach Alex Compton said Abueva remains suspended even after a 89-74 loss to the Meralco Bolts on Sunday snapped their seven-game winning streak.
Compton said that he’s just waiting for instructions from management.
“The word hasn’t changed. Indefinite means indefinite. It means not forever. ‘Maybe’ - that’s what it means. We’ll see as I talk to management,” Compton said.
Abueva was slapped with an indefinite suspension after going AWOL following the All-Star break because of personal issues.
Right now, Compton and the Aces management is letting Abueva focus on his stint with the national team as it prepares for Fiba World Cup qualifiers against Chinese Taipei on June 29.
“He’s getting ready for Gilas. We didn’t stop him from playing for Gilas. We didn’t want to get in the way of the national team so we have to get ready for that.”
