JIMMY Alapag made sure to personally congratulate Marcio Lassiter, albeit belatedly, for breaking his record for most career three-pointers made on Sunday when NLEX played San Miguel in the PBA 50th Season Governors’ Cup.
Alapag became the record holder for most three-pointers at 1,250 late in his 13-year PBA career, until it was surpassed on September 15, 2024 by Lassiter, who now has 1,397 counting four-pointers after Sunday’s game.

Nearly two years to the day, Alapag, now the head coach of NLEX, congratulated Lassiter prior to tip-off of their game against San Miguel, with Alapag and Lassiter also spotted posing for a photo.
“Aside from playing a team that has really dominated the PBA for a long time, I was really looking forward to getting a chance to see Marcio,” Alapag said.
“I didn’t get a chance to congratulate him personally for being the new three-point record holder,” said Alapag, who was still with the Sacramento Kings when Lassiter broke the mark.
Alapag said the fact that the 39-year-old Lassiter continues to stretch his record at this point of his 15-year career is a testament to his longevity and dedication.
“It’s a testament of him as a player. It’s a testament to his work ethic, his consistency. No one is now the greatest shooter in PBA history. To be able to congratulate him personally, I was really looking forward to that,” Alapag said.
“He’s absolutely deserving of it. I even told him after the game, 'Keep going, try to stretch that record out so far so nobody else breaks it.' Nothing but the most respect for Marcio,” the former PBA MVP and Gilas Pilipinas captain added.
