THE ability to play defense makes NBA veteran Al Thorton a perfect fit for NLEX in its coming campaign for the PBA Commissioner’s Cup.
Coach Boyet Fernandez said he is impressed with Thornton’s defensive ability to play defense, which has been the known forte of the former pro player while coaching in both college and amateur leagues.
“I heard he can play defense so it’s a plus factor for our team,” said Fernandez, who added the Road Warriors already signed Thornton.
The 6-foot-8 import is expected to arrive in the country sometime around the first week of January.
Fernandez added he’s also impressed with Thornton’s array of skills and what he can bring to the Road Warriors.
“He can shoot from the outside, he can attack to the basket, and can post up as well,” said Fernandez to Spin.ph on Tuesday.
With Thornton aboard, NLEX is looking to improve on its 4-7 (win-loss) record in the Philippine Cup which served as the team’s maiden campaign in the league.
The former Florida State University standout was drafted by Los Angeles Clippers in 2007 before playing five seasons for different NBA teams with the Washington Wizards and the Golden State Warriors.
