RAYMUND Almazan suffered a double whammy in his first game back with Rain or Shine after a stint with Gilas Pilipinas.
Almazan was rushed to the hospital after the Elasto Painters’ 92-88 win over the Star Hotshots in the PBA Governors Cup on Sunday due to dehydration as the lanky big man had already been nursing a fever prior to the match.
If that’s not bad enough, the national team stalwart was also fined P10,000 for the two flagrant foul personal 1 infractions he committed during the game.
Almazan was forced to play against the Hotshots as the Elasto Painters were lacking in big man, with veteran Beau Belga serving out his one-game suspension.
He finished with a double-double of 13 points and 14 rebounds to help Rain or Shine clinch a third straight win and deal Star its first loss in five games this conference.
But Almazan had to be taken out of the Smart Araneta Coliseum on a stretcher and brought to the Cardinal Santos Hospital as he could no longer stand on his own after the game due to dehydration.
Also penalized for the same infractions were JC Intal of Phoenix (P5,000) for a 'wind-up contract' with TnT import Glen Rice Jr. and teammate Matthew Wright (P7,500) for a landing spot violation against Roger Pogoy.
Again, all monetary fines go directly to the PBA Players’ Trust Fund.
Star’s Marc Barroca was also fined P2,000 for technical foul (second motion) in the game versus Rain or Shine, while Maverick Ahanmisi was also found guilty of the same violation (P2,000).
San Miguel import Wendell McKines was called for a technical foul (resentment to a call) in the game opposite NLEX and received a P1,000 penalty while Globalport counterpart Murphey Halloway was cited for dress code violation and made to pay P1,000.
NLEX guard Juami Tiongson was also penalized for an unspecified amount for pointing an accusing finger towards the game official in the Road Warriors’ 103-100 win over the Beermen.
