IT took Jerrick Ahanmisi’s wife to call his attention to the tiny detail that the first four-point shots in PBA history were converted against him.

The Magnolia guard found himself in the "embarrassing" situation after Chris Banchero and Jolo Mendoza both nailed separate baskets from 27 feet out against his defense during the Magnolia-Meralco Governors’ Cup season opener.

Ahanmisi said his wife made him aware about it.

“Yeah, I know. To be honest with you, it was my wife who told me that it was kind of embarrassing in a way. There was like a cover of a magazine that I’m in front of, but I’m not the one shooting the ball,” said the 26-year-old Fil-Nigerian guard.

“She definitely made it apparent to me that I need to come in to the next game and kind of show up and come back at whatever happen to me in the first game.”

    That’s exactly what Ahanmisi did.

The Adamson product hit not just one, but two straight from beyond the four-point arc in the Hotshots’ second game of the season against Converge, making him the first player to do so in back-to-back fashion.

Ahanmisi finished with 14 points and played key role in the Hotshots’ 105-93 bounce-back win against the FiberXers. The fourth year pro nodded when asked if the mission was accomplished as far as his wife is concerned.

“I hope so,” Ahanmisi answered when asked if the wifey would finally be happy with the effort.

But Ahanmisi said he’s been taking extra shooting drills before and after every Magnolia practice that he felt it would only be a matter of time before his shots finally begin to fall.

“It was good. I was just glad my teammates trusted me, and my coaches trusted me to be able to take those kinds of shots,” he said.

      Supportive teammates

They’ve been really supporting my game and giving me the confidence to take the shots that I took. Hopefully I’ll be able to follow it up in the following games.”

Magnolia’s next game would be on Thursday against TNT at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
