THE agent of athletic big man Japeth Aguilar admitted he won’t be surprised if in the coming days management of both Barangay Ginebra and Globalport will resume trade talks involving the enigmatic 6-foot-9 center.
Marvin Espiritu revealed that of late, the Gin Kings have been very interested in acquiring the services of the former Western Kentucky University stalwart especially after he came back from the US following his failed attempt to make the NBA D-League.
“Nabasa ko nga `yung story ninyo (Spin.ph). Kaya sabi ko sa sarili ko, ayan na naman,” said Espiritu of the recent Spin.ph story quoting a high-ranking Ginebra official about the team’s desire to revive its bid for Aguilar.
“Talagang eager `yung Ginebra na makuha nila si Japeth since last January pa,” said the second-generation player agent. “Mas naging aggressive sila nung nakita nila si Japeth na bumalik from the US.”
The lanky Gilas Pilipinas national training pool member will definitely be a welcome addition to Ginebra, whose thin frontline was exposed by Alaska in the Aces’ three-game sweep of the Kings during the recent PBA Commissioner’s Cup Finals.
Aguilar, formerly of Talk `N Text, was supposed to be shipped to Ginebra early in the season by way of a multi-player, multi-team trade that involved Sol Mercado and Kerby Raymundo. The deal however, fell through at the last minute after a top SMC official pulled the plug on the transaction.
