THE winning streak is not about to make defending champion San Miguel Beer complacent in its PBA Commissioner’s Cup campaign.

While the Beermen are currently on a roll following yet another win Wednesday night, Alex Cabagnot said the team is staying grounded while slowly regaining the form that enabled it to win this same tournament last season.

The Beermen have now crawled out of the cellar and to the middle of the standings with an even 3-3 record after starting the midseason conference with three successive losses.

“We’re still 3 and 3. We can’t get too high, we were in the lows, we were 0-3, now we’re 3-3. So we just have to stay level-headed,” said the veteran point guard, who registered a triple double of 20 points, 10, rebounds, and 10 assists in San Miguel’s 129-117 demolition of Columbian Dyip at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Cabagnot was 5-for-11 from the field and had 14 of his total output in the third quarter when the Beermen survived a big Columbian run to take a 97-89 lead to the fourth period.

It was the second career triple-double for Cabagnot, who first did the feat during Game 6 of last year’s Commissioner’s Cup finals against TnT Katropa.

The Fil-Am guard believes the Beermen are bound to get even better as the tournament goes on.

“I expect this to continue to play cohesively as a unit, and just continue to pay attention to details, and stay ahead of the learning curve,” he said. “While we’re doing that process, hopefully we could come up with some wins.”
