SAN Miguel Beer import Reggie Williams is ready to relish the full Manila experience after coming over last year as a member of the Houston Rockets' preseason roster that played the Indiana Pacers in the historic NBA preseason game at the Mall of Asia Arena.
“I came here in the preseason with the Houston Rockets, to Manila to play Indiana,” recalled Williams, a left-handed shooter, who had NBA stops with the Golden State Warriors, the Charlotte Bobcats and the Oklahoma City Thunder.
“We were at the other side of the city at Sofitel (Philippine Plaza in Pasay), but that side of the city is not like where I am right now,” he added.
Since the Rockets and the Pacers didn’t have much time to tour Manila due to their hectic Global Games schedule that include a brief stop in Chinese Taipei, Williams said his perception in Manila only changed when he finally got here as the Beermen’s import.
“My perception has totally changed since I’ve been here. It’s a beautiful country. It’s a beautiful city,” he said with a wide grin.
“I was really caught off guard. I really like it.”
Williams hopes to explore the city more as he spends the next two months playing for the Beermen in the Governors Cup, though he did say he has plans of returning to the NBA if given a chance.
