FOR Wayne Chism, playing in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) is a step towards his dream of one day making it to the world’s premier league – the NBA.
Aborted the first time, Chism finally got his chance of suiting up in Asia’s first ever play-for-pay league after arriving in the country to reinforce Rain or Shine in the mid-season Commissioner’s Cup.
And Chism didn’t hide how awed he is with the PBA.
“I like it here. It’s NBA style. I am used to be stuck in European basketball, coming back here (Philippines) will be very helpful,” said Chism with a big smile.
“I’m get in there and get my feet wet. I am really excited,” added the 6-8 forward.

Chism was originally set for a stint with Barako Bull until a contract problem with his former team in the Hungarian basketball league forced the energy to drop him.
Now that he’s back, Chism hopes to inject energy and inside presence to Rain or Shine as he takes over the place of Alex McLean.
“I think so (putting a resurgence to this team). I’ll (help them) get back to where they love to be, and that’s the championship games and finals,” he said.
“What they are going through is just a little small stain. They’d get out of it. We’ll get out of it as I come to help the team.”
Asked on his thoughts about Barako Bull successor Joshua Dollard, the former Tennessee Volunteer gave a two-thumbs up sign.
“He’s doing pretty well, two 40-point games. He’s been helping the team out. They’ve been on a slow start, but they’re gonna come back,” said Chism, who admitted becoming close to Dorian Pena during his short stint with Barako Bull during the pre-conference break.
Chism said he’s very much intrigued with the PBA that he kept a close watch on it by reading news items and watching some games of the league on YouTube.
“I just look at (the internet) and see. I watch it because Dorian and I have a good relationship. It’s pretty good watching and looking at how good the (PBA players) play,” he said.
Chism will begin practicing with the Elasto Painters on Friday morning as he prepares in time for his debut against GlobalPort.
