NORTHPORT is bracing for the worst after import Venky Jois left early in their game against Meralco on Saturday night in the PBA Governors’ Cup.
The Batang Pier fear that Jois has suffered an Achilles injury in his right foot with 3:15 left in the first quarter, and was taken off the floor on a stretcher.
Jois was immediately brought to the hospital for an MRI.
NorthPort coach Bonnie Tan said the initial diagnosis of the team’s physical therapist is an Achilles injury as Jois couldn’t feel anything after he took a shot over Allen Durham.
After the game, NorthPort officials were already discussing their options that includes an import switch with Jois’ condition.
With their team without an import, NorthPort lost to Meralco, 114-104, with Arvin Tolentino taking most of the scoring load and tallied 28 points.
Against Meralco, Jois played for only eight minutes and 42 seconds and finished with four points, two rebounds, and one assist.
The 31-year-old Jois is in his second stint with NorthPort, coming in as a replacement to Taylor Johns in after a game.
Jois sustained an ankle injury this conference, forcing him to miss a game against Magnolia last September 3.
Jois first played for NorthPort in the 2023-24 Commissioner’s Cup.
