WE have compiled the results of 22 tune-up/practice games so far among the 10 teams these last couple of weeks prior to the start of the 38th season of the PBA this Sunday and although we're not sure if the list is complete, it looks like Alaska is poised to bounce back from its worst season in franchise history.
Against PBA teams, the Aces won four of their five games and this doesn’t even count a game against San Mig Coffee last September 11 at the Reyes Gym which they were leading 63-50 at the 1:21 mark of the third quarter when the Mixers walked out of the game in protest of a flagrant foul slapped on Jerwin Gaco.
Alaska also actually won the 2012 Mayor Mike L. Rama Cup PBA Preseason Invitational Basketball Tournament held in Cebu City from September 21 to 23, sweeping its three assignments against two-time defending Philippine Cup titlist Talk ’N Text, San Mig Coffee and host M. Luhuillier Kuwarta Padala-Cebu Ninos.
Alaska also has beaten Barangay Ginebra San Miguel and newcomer Global Port while its only defeat was to Barako Bull last September 12.
Also having a good preseason was Petron Blaze which won three of its four games with one other game — against the Kings — ending up in an 87-all deadlock.
Barako Bull also is 3-1 so far while Barangay Ginebra San Miguel and Rain or Shine had 2-2-1 slates, meaning two wins, two losses and a draw.
Global Port is the only winless team during the preseason with its 0-4 record, the most recent an 89-78 defeat to Meralco at the Moro Lorenzo Gym.
