EVEN if he is suspended indefinitely, Calvin Abueva is still very much a part of the Alaska family.
The eccentric forward was spotted on Thursday joining the Aces in their weight training session, raising speculations the controversial forward is bound to rejoin the team for the season-ending PBA Governors Cup.
The Alaska Aces' official Instagram account posted a photo of the entire team after its gym workout, with Abueva seen standing in between former San Sebastian teammate Ronald Pascual and rookie Davon Potts.
It was the first time Abueva was seen in public together with the Aces following the indefinite suspension meted on him by Alaska management for going AWOL in the early stages of the Commissioner's Cup.
Intrigued, we reached out to Alaska management.
Aces team manager Dickie Bachmann, however, readily made it clear that the indefinite suspension on the Angeles City native remains.
So what is he doing in the weights session?
"He is required to keep in shape," said the Alaska official, who is also the vice chairman of the PBA board. "It just so happened the Aces also had weight sessions."
The training session would also do Abueva a world of good since he's also been suspended by Fiba for six games for his role in the brawl that marred Gilas Pilipinas' home qualifier against Australia last July 2.
The six-game ban rules out Abueva for the rest of the qualifiers for the 2019 Fiba World Cup in China.
