CALVIN Abueva admitted directing lewd gestures at Bobby Ray Parks Jr.'s girlfriend but claimed he only returned the favor after being at the receiving end of curse words and discriminatory acts.
Speaking at the end of Phoenix's win over Blackwater on Friday, Abueva said Parks’ girlfriend Maika Rivera cursed at him during the game then flashed the dirty finger after the 'Beast' fouled out.
Rivera, a former tennis player and now a movie and television actress, also called him a 'monkey,' Abueva claimed.
While he admitted doing the lewd act that the Blackwater rookie is accusing him of, the controversial Abueva said he simply got fed up with Rivera’s name-calling and other gestures against him.
“Foul din naman sa akin ‘yun na porket player kami, kami lang ang mumurahin,” said Abueva. “Ang ginawa sa akin, ang sabi sa akin, ‘Hey, get out of here. Umalis ka rito, f**k you ka.’ Sabi ko, tignan niyo muna ‘yung lamang bago ka gumanyan. Bakit mo ako aanuhin. Nagkamali ka ata ng kinalaban.”
When asked if it was true that he was called a monkey, Abueva said: “Merong sinabi. Nag-sign pa ng f*ck you.”
Abueva said River'a action was seen by the entire team as well as by his wife.
“Ako, g*go ako sa court pero ‘yung g*g*guhin mo ako, iba ‘yun. Rookie pa lang ‘yung boyfriend mo tapos aanuhin mo ako. Anong reason niya na mag-ganun-ganun siya? Ano siya, nasa NBA? Haller. Wala siya sa NBA. Nasa Pilipinas siya.
“Wag sila mag-angas na ako pa ‘yung may mali. Nasa court tayo, wala tayo sa labas. Kung nasa labas, pinersonal kita, doon ka mag-react,” said Abueva.
Abueva believes he should not be fined. He also has no plan to issue an apology, like what Parks has asked the Office of the Commissioner to compel him to do.
“Bakit ako magfa-fine? Bakit ako magpa-public apology? Wala naman tayo sa labas. Nasa court tayo. Bakit ko gagawin ‘yun? Sino ba may mali doon? Ako ba nauna?” Abueva said.
