FRESH from his stint in the Asean Basketball League (ABL), Jerick Cañada has signed with Blackwater in the PBA and is set to make his debut with the Elite in the game against San Miguel Beer on Tuesday.

Cañada signed on the eve of the Elite’s last game of the Philippine Cup elimination round, fresh from winning the ABL Finals MVP award after leading the Hi-Tech Bangkok City to a sweep of the Westports Malaysia Dragons.

A former Barangay Ginebra draftee, Cañada has appeared in three straight ABL Finals starting with the Indonesia Warriors against the San Miguel Beermen in 2012, something that his skills and conditioning coach Edster Sy believed helped him get ready for the PBA.

“The ABL helped him in his maturity as a player. He has become a shooter and a good court general,” said Sy, who trains Cañada at his Headstart Sports Academy.

The former Adamson Falcons standout joins a deep Blackwater backcourt that includes Brian Heruela, Paul Artadi, Chris Timberlake, and Juami Tiongson.
