IRON sharpens iron, and that could also be said for CJ Perez and Robert Bolick.

The incoming PBA sophomores admit that their rivalry rooted from the NCAA has only challenged them to up their games whenever they face each other.

The two met twice in the NCAA finals, both of which Bolick's San Beda got the better of Perez' Lyceum.

Even in the PBA, Perez went first in the 2018 PBA Rookie Draft to Columbian while Bolick went third to NorthPort.

But even though back in their collegiate days, it was the Red Lions which have gotten the last laugh over the Pirates, the two have always maintained mutual respect.

So syempre, dahil nga katapat marami akong natutunan sa kanya," Bolick said.

Their rivalry also forced them to think better of the game.

"Kapag magagaling na player, walang force right o force left eh.

The same was the effect for Perez.

That's why it shouldn't come as a surprise that their backcourt partnership in Gilas Pilipinas were a relative success, with them being the pleasant surprise for the Philippines' winless run in China last year.

"Matututo’t matututo ka talaga," Perez said.
