PASIG Chooks' dream run ended at the quarterfinal stage, falling to world No. 3 Riga Ghetto of Latvia, 21-15 on Friday in the Doha Masters of the 2019 Fiba 3x3 World Tour Friday at Katara Amphitheatre in Qatar.
Not even a balanced attack from the Filipinos could sustain their gains in the prelims as Karlis Lasmanis played sensational basketball, scoring seven points to lead the Latvians to the semifinals against the winner of Piran and Tokyo Dime.
Agnis Cavars added five, including the game-sealing freebie with 20.8 seconds to spare, while Arturs Strelnieks also scored five points for Riga Ghetto.
Joshua Munzon led Pasig Chooks with five points, but his two-pointer in the final two minutes proved to be the last stand for the Philippine squad as the team misfired from deep in the endgame.
Taylor Statham and French import Angelo Tsagarakis also had five points apiece, as Serbian import Nikola Pavlovic went scoreless in the defeat.
The Philippines' hope now rests solely on the shoulders of Balanga Chooks, which will meet world No. 1 Liman of Serbia at 11:15 p.m.
The scores:
RIGA GHETTO 21 - Lasmanis 7, Cavars 5, Strelnieks 5, Miezis 4.
PASIG CHOOKS 15 - Munzon 5, Statham 5, Tsagarakis 5, Pavlovic 0.
