PASIG Chooks failed to capitalize on its hot start, losing to Sosnovy BorCopRosatom, 21-19, in its opener in the 2019 Fiba 3x3 Huaqiao International Kunshan Challenger Saturday.
Fouls were the Filipino squad's bane in the duel as they lost hold of a 17-15 lead with two minutes remaining as Taylor Statham committed a foul on Artem Timofeev that knotted the score at 17.
Timofeev knocked down a big two-pointer, before Vladislav Meleshkin drilled another long bomb to wrap up the game.
Joshua Munzon paced Pasig with 10 points built on three deuces, while Statham added six points and six boards.
The defeat put the Filipino crew in a must-win situation against world no. 3 Liman of Serbia at 7:40 p.m. to finish their Pool A assignment.
Timofeev carried the Russian side with seven points, as Meleshkin and Vladimir Bazylev both had six apiece as Sosnovy BorCopRosatom (1-1) made up for its 22-18 defeat to Liman earlier in the day.
